Formerly known as the General Skills Category, the Skilled Migrant Category is a points based system (you obtain points for such things as your work experience, age, qualifications, etc). This is the most popular category for applicants seeking New Zealand residency.

• Are you under 56 years of age?
• Are you, (and if applicable - your partner, and your children) all healthy?
• Are you, (and if applicable - your partner, and your children) free of major criminal convictions and not a security risk?
• Can you competently speak, write and understand English?
• Have you been offered a job in New Zealand?
• Do you have a tertiary or trade qualification?
• Do you have at least two years work experience?

family categories pack

The categories under the Family Sponsored stream are the Family Category (partnership, parent, sibling/adult child and dependent child policies) and the family quota category.

Partnership Policy
If your partner is a New Zealand resident or citizen and you would like to live in New Zealand with them, then this is the category you should use for your application for New Zealand residency. There are some minimum requirements for recognition of partnership and you and your partner will need to prove when making your application.

Parent Policy
If you have an adult child who is a New Zealand resident or citizen you may be able to join them in New Zealand. You may be granted residence under this policy if your child is 17 years or over and sponsors your application and your family’s centre of gravity is in New Zealand.

business investor pack

New Zealand is a popular destination for successful individuals seeking to establish a business in New Zealand. Applicants have the opportunity to be granted New Zealand residency via a selection of business categories - Investor, Entrepreneur or Employees of Relocating Business.

Applicants for the Business Investor category must first submit an Expression of Interest along with a minimum set of requirements including:

• have at least NZ$2 million to invest in New Zealand and;
• be under 55 years of age and;
• have at least 5 years business experience and;
• be healthy and of good character and;
• meet a minimum standard of English

To apply under the Entrepreneur Category an applicant will need to:

• have successfully established a business in New Zealand that is benefiting New Zealand and;
• be healthy and of good character and;
• meet a minimum standard of English and;
• not have applied for or been granted social welfare benefits in New Zealand

The Employees of Relocating Businesses Category aims to promote New Zealand as a place in which to relocate businesses. To be considered under this category the owner(s) of the relocating business need to prove to the NZIS that the business will operate in New Zealand, be of benefit to New Zealand and comply with all relevant employment and immigration laws within New Zealand.
